At nearly two million Americans behind bars and counting, the United States leads the world in imprisoning its own population. Along with record levels of incarceration, there has been a boom in prison construction. An extensive prison-industrial complex is now an integral part of the economy. Private companies use prison labor to enhance their profits. This panel features three of the leading scholar/activists on crime, punishment and political economy.
